I have
been thinking a
lot about this lately. Reflecting. And it has occured to me
that i have been practising this behavior for quite some time. I
started a list of everything i have made in my life and was surprised
not at the
length but the actual items on the list. I was later
surprised at how long it could get, if
and when i follow through on my "To Do" list; not to be confused with
the "Current Projects" list. It has also occured to me that this
is learned behavior from my Mother and Father who have quite the lists
themselves.
Here are
my (incomplete) lists:
Current
Projects:
-RC Helicopter
-Time Z control pedal mods (2008)
foot problems in the past from a
crappy shoe (imho) led me to the Z control pedal. they helped for
sure but i figured out that it wasn't the fore and aft surface area of
the pedal that was helping. it was the lateral support that
helped. so i cut the
ends off basically to make it easier to clip in. i like
the wider platform through the center.

-Polo Mallet Head
recent discussions with Alex at the bike
block party down in LA have led to this...

-Common Tools Friendly Bottom Bracket
no pics yet
-Refillable Air Cartridge
no pics
yet
Past
Projects:
-Desk Unit (2006):
quick and easy to assemble and
disassemble. basic 2 tier with seperate shelf on the left.
things always get messy just before a long trip.
note the green toolbox.
that was my Dads. it is a Park tool box from way back.

-Queen Bed (2006)
again, basic design. quick and easy
to assemble and disassemble for moving.
foot board folds up for shelf or down if situated toward middle of room
where space might be an issue.
currently the foot board is up and there are plants lining it.
good views out the window.

-Chain Ring Bash Guard (2005)
pic coming.
-Bolt on Freewheel (2005)
i tried out a new approach to the clutch
mechanism.
but it turns out to cost way too much for the initial investment to try
and bring this to market.

-Website (2004)
you're looking at it!
-Fixed Gear Bike Hub, Cogs and Front Hub (2003-4 and
going...)
yes. that is what brought you to this
page.
-Grease
(2004)
my own secret recipe! pic coming.
-Beer
(first time ever was 1996. avidly in 2002-4)
several flavors and styles. my
favorite ended up being an IPA. lots of hops.
-Work Bench (several 1997, 2004...)
no pics. but will be making a new one
shortly.
-Messenger
Bag (2002)
constructed using 2 pieces off fabric
(cordura and a waterproof fabric) layered together and sewn
strategically so as not have any seems or stitch points in critical
areas. it is also made in such a way that as you add items, the
bag expands away from your back instead of into your back. hence,
and needless to say, the most comfortable bag i have ever used.

-Tool Kit Bag (2002)
basically just an idea from the scraps of
above.

-Tire Levers (first one in 2000. ongoing as the tips break off.)
carved from the handle of one of those .50
cent "throw away" paint brushes.
this one is starting to show signs of an extremely useful life.

-Record
Cabinet (1995)
i was sick of carrying my recod collection
around in milk crates and cardboard boxes.
my brother in law had a nice word working shop set up in his
basement.
this turned into one of those rare projects where everything works out
perfectly.

-Street
Luge (1991 and 1997)
no pics but i i do have old VHS footage of
us riding it in Maine.
and Allen has the 1991 frame back in DC.
-Snowboard (1986)
again, no pics but, it was made out of
plywood, formica, old boot tops and glue. it worked perfectly for
the golf course hill. keep in mind that this was during an era
when the top of the line snowboard was the Burton Woody. which i
later bought, and still have.
-Skate
Deck (1984)
and again, no pics. cut from
plywood. the grip tape was also home made from a mixture of
paint, glue and sand.
